Day 3: Prayer Walking and Baptisms

We’re halfway through our week in Haiti! Instead of clinic today, we toured several World Wide Village (WWV) initiatives.

Our first stop was a visit to the goat herds. WWV is helping gift goats to families in order to raise and sell. This form of business is highly sustainable in rural Haiti. It was exciting to witness the growing herds, and we were even able to make friends with some baby goats!

Next, we divided into groups of 3-4 team members for our prayer walk through parts of Williamson near the new clinic site. Although at first it seemed intimidating to talk about faith with strangers, it was actually quite easy as Haitians are incredibly welcoming and open to spiritual conversations.

One 10-year-old boy we encountered had a bad burn on his hand, which he received when boiling water while cooking by himself. He is not allowed in school because he keeps getting in fights. Our team headed back this evening to care for his burn and start him on medications. Please pray for him as it was obvious he was in pain and these wounds often result in infection and disability from scarring.

Our next stop was the Luly school, where we were able to observe the students in classes and meet some of the sponsored kids.

Lastly, we ended at Wahoo Bay, a resort with ocean access. We enjoyed pizza and souvenir shopping prior to heading down to the ocean. Three of our team members, including a married couple, were baptized in the Caribbean. One of those people became a Christian last year in Haiti when he came on the mission trip with his fiancee who is now his wife. We were able to relax and swim afterward.

It has been great to re-energize today so we can work well these final two days of clinic. Please continue to be in prayer for physical and spiritual healing these next two days. Tomorrow we will be in Luly, where there has been be more obvious spiritual darkness in the past.
