We had another great day seeing God work in our clinic in Haiti. Our goal was to help hurting people and bring God glory – what a joy to be able to do just that.
Enjoy a few stories from our day…
We spent about 30 minutes or so with a mother, 41, and her daughter, 17, talking about their walks with the Lord. After the first part of our talk the mother shared her prayer request to “be able to see God close to her every day.” Both mom and daughter are active in their church and mom was part of a group of women who met and sang together regularly. Dr. Matt came over and examined the mother who was complaining of tiredness while walking. This led to a pregnancy test. After two minutes the test indicated the mother was pregnant. The mom’s first response was to point to her 17 year old daughter, who wasn’t sexually active, and ask if the test results were for her. Matt said the test was for the one who gave the urine sample. After she had been given instructions on how to care for herself and some medical supplies to help with the birth, I asked if she was ready to be a mom again. She replied very harshly that she couldn’t have a baby and that she didn’t have the provisions to take care of it. I started to share how God would meet her there, but she replied quickly again that God knew her situation and that God didn’t want her to have a baby now. This got me deeply concerned. I tried to tell her about how God ordained all life and was at this moment knitting the baby in her womb (Ps 139:13), but she pointed to her arm as if she was trying to say she would look to abort the baby as soon as she could. Matt overheard this and 
asked if it would be good to include a pastor’s assistance.
Greg volunteered to help as soon as he was finished with one of his patients. My patient started getting very restless and indicated she wanted to leave, but I just said a quiet prayer to keep her there. God answered that prayer and she waited until Greg showed up. He shared how he understood that she was scared and then showed how God had provided for him and Laura (his wife) when Laura was near the same age as this mother. In fact, he had Grace raise her hand and wave to show the mother how God provides beautiful children when we rely on his provision. The mother took all this to heart and really seemed to have a new attitude toward this child. She asked for a Bible for her daughter and herself. I told them I’d give them one now and another if they come to the clinic in Williamson later in the week, where I’d pray with her again. Please take some time to pray for Janelle and her unborn child. Pray for health and that she would not lose heart at all during this challenging time in her life.

Molly, Kim and I had the privilege of presenting at a women’s conference in Williamson this afternoon. When we were here last October the women asked us to speak about sanctification when we came back. We each shared a personal example of how God has worked in our lives to sanctify us. One of the highlights of the conference for me was listening to the women sing; they sang one of my favorite hymns, How Great Thou Art. After we shared our examples, the Haitian women shared some examples of their own. What struck me was that even though we live in very different cultures, we all struggle with the same issues. Please continue to pray that the women here would grow in their relationship with Christ and would live out Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
